New Zealand Deer Velvet capsules
Velvet antler has a long history of use as a traditional medicine , Asians have used Deer velvet
in traditional medicine for thousands of years, considering it to be a 'tonic', to strengthen support and protect the body’s mental
and physical performance. Current research has tended to support most of these claims while further research is still needed for those
remaining unproven.
Why take Velvet?
A great deal of this research has been carried out particular in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Russia, Australia, USA. Canada and New Zealand. In New Zealand, the internationally recognized research is conducted by a state owned company, dedicated to life science and agricultural research, called AgResearch and the Game Industry Board forming the Velvet Antler Research New Zealand (VARNZ).
What is Velvet?
Velvet antler is the deer antlers during their annual rapid growth phase, during this period the antlers are
covered in a velvet-like covering of hair. New Zealand removes the antlers that develop each year from the red deer stags. Antlers grow at a rapid rate of approximately 2cm a day. This rapid growth is likely to be regulated by pharmacodynamic substances
that are at particularly high concentrations in deer velvet. The unique nature of deer velvet has no doubt contributed to its reputation
as a powerful remedy.
Bio-Active ingredients
During research a variety of peptides and proteins, lipids, nucleotides, polyamines
and vitamins have been identified as active ingredients. For example, recent studies of deer velvet carried out in New Zealand and
in the United States have shown that it contains a wide variety of growth factors. These are essential biologically active molecules
that are known to have a range of important functions in a wide range of body tissues. Velvet is also a source of hexosamine, chondroitin
sulphate and collagen, which are known to support joint function.
Velvet Processing
Velvet processing premises are licensed
by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA). MAF and NZFSA ensure food safety
and hygiene requirements are met and maintained through regular inspections. Velvet processing involves a cooking process at different
temperatures using wet heat followed by a very long period of dehydration. New Zealand velvet processing involves a combination of
traditional methods with modern processing technology, resulting in very high levels of hygiene and product quality.
