Where do we source our Green lipped mussel?
Green Lipped Mussels are found along the New Zealand Coast. The mussels feed
on phytoplanktons, which produce anti-oxidants, and anti-inflammatory substances, which are present in the mussels as well as rich
minerals the mussels, take in from the surrounding seawater. The deep, clean and cool waters of the Marlborough Sounds, which
is situated in the top of the South Island of New Zealand, provide an ideal environment for raising mussels from spat through to harvest,
with sound cultivation methods ensuring they grow quickly and are sand and grit-free. Shellfish health and seawater purity are
rigorously monitored, and the various companies and farmers have adopted an environmental code of practice, which ensures the safety
of the area's unspoilt beauty.
Production method
During production of our Green Lipped Mussel powder, we use low temperature
processing to protect the sensitive Omega 3 fatty acids. Laboratory tests have shown that this low temperature processing has
produced 1.4 times greater amounts of Omega -3 oils, when compared with product prepared in the usual manner using high heat to separate
the shuck. Our Green Lipped mussels are sourced from the New Zealand Ministry of Fisheries approved growing areas under strict
quality supervision
